It's... something all right...

[The air suddenly feels very dry. And there are way too many appendages for this to be comfortable.]

[Alex switches to video feed and shakes his head. His very large, bald head.]

I understand entirely, love... I suppose I should be grateful that my head remains firmly in place upon my shoulders, hmm?

[The Zora makes a valiant attempt to stumble back, and away from the video. It doesn't work well. And the graceful water creature falls over backward.]

[The reaction isn't particularly what he'd hoped for, but it certainly doesn't surprise him terribly.

He grimaces at the crashing sounds and sighs, folding his arms across his much shorter torso.]

I suppose I should have expected something about like that... you alright?

[He'd make a mental note to not even think of bringing up anything amorous even in jest... well, he'd try to limit it, anyway.]

[He's rubbing at his head, though.]

[Alex's expression is as bland as he can make it, all things considered.]

No, I can't imagine you were... you certainly got the better end of the stick in regards to looks, love. A bit aquatic, certainly, but at least your mother would look at you without running and screaming.

[Not that his would literally run screaming, but he's not under any foolish thought that he's pretty like this.]

[Deep breaths, fish mage. Except that ends in dry coughs, thanks to the air.]

[Alex's gaze moves over Anders' form as he rights himself and he whistles softly.]

Well, at least you have the charm of a sea creature, Anders... I have absolutely nothing to say about this... The day I thought I'd turn into a Ferengi is... well.. okay, I never thought I'd turn into a Ferengi.

I can't believe I even know what one is.

[He palms his face and sighs, making a point of not touching his ear ridges. He knows enough about the species through television to know it won't go well if he touches them.]

No, it can't... it will be over before we know it, I'm sure.

I'm covered in scales. There's nothing charming about this unless you've some sort of fish fetish.

[He presses his face into his hands.]

I can't believe you do, either. Is it common, in your world?

[Alex actually smiles at this and his laughter is genuinely amused, rather than forced.]

[His tone is clearly jesting, but he hopes Anders can be as lighthearted about it. Then, seeing the Mage turned whale-fish-thing become distressed he shakes his head.]

Only at the odd conventional gathering... this is a fictional character where I'm from. Though... it makes me a bit concerned that they're really out there when I've turned into one. They're from a television show that was pretty popular about fifteen years ago or thereabouts.

Why would that give you a thing for fish...?

[He's not lighthearted in the slightest. In face, he doesn't lift his hands from his face. This is just... perfect.]

[Alex's lips quirk in a grin and he chuckles softly.]

[He takes in Anders' response and sighs softly, his tone soft and soothing.]

Anders... I'm certain this isn't a permanent thing. We've been lucky in that regard thus far.

Oh. Yes. Of course you are.

[He tells himself he's crankier than usual because of the scales -- because everything feels so dry.]

Thus far. Maybe something's changed this time!

[Alex is the pure image of patience and his tone reflects it well.]

Unfortunately, love, there is nothing to do but wait it out and hope it ends sooner rather than later. Please believe that I am just as anxious for a conclusion to this...

[For while some seemed to be having an enjoyable time with this, Alex wasn't particularly amongst them.]

[A swear he wasn't accustomed to, but Alex has no doubt it's a swear all the same. He offers Anders what he hopes is a comforting smile, but in that moment relatively hates his own features and their lack of proper mood portrayal.

Ferengis were either happy or angry... and either one involved lots of pointy teeth showing.]

It's alright, Anders... you don't need to apologize. I understand wholly, believe me.

[And he wasn't hurt or offended. It was a small relief that he at least knew what he was supposed to be. He just kept telling himself that it couldn't last forever.]

I... can imagine you do.

[He sucks in a breath through his teeth -- his fishy teeth. And then coughs.]

Sometimes, I wonder how you can be so patient.
